D’Anthony Carlos? Wait maybe you’ll recognize him under the name GoldLink? Not? Well let us bust a bit knowledge on all you fools. GoldLink came in hot in 2014 with the release of his debut mixtape – The God Complex, and tell you what – people just didn’t know how to handle it.
“A sound all his own. Brightly colored, hyper, and upbeat, the Virginia native’s music draws openly from genres that street rap usually has no time for: bachata, go-go, classic house.” [Pitchfork]
The thing is – that before this 26 minute long mixtape there wasn’t much to GoldLink’s name. His Soundcloud account only boasted a track list of six songs. But this unique sound and rhythm brought a whole new feel to the hip-hop he dropped, and as a result caused a serious stir in the industry. So much so that in 2015 he was chosen to be part of the XXL Freshman Class – whats that? Well lets just say if you make the cut, you the sh*t. The XXL is a magazine that annually releases a top 10 Freshman list of young up and coming rappers to look out for. Started in 1997, this list has featured the likes of Chance The Rapper, Anderson Paak, Meek Mill, Kid Cudi, Future and like pretty much every other rapper that has now made it.
Anyway now that you’ve got a feel for how fresh this kid is, all we actually wanted to tell you about was his latest album – At What Cost. Ladies and gentlemen if you do one thing today, do yourself a favour and give this tape a listen. He has mixed it up and completely out done himself. Turning up what may be called – a refreshing sound. I mean this guy even up and did a mix of Herside Story with Hare Squead, and it also happens to be damn tight.
So what we’ve done is thrown together a couple of our favorite tracks from the At What Cost album – considerably difficult as the whole album just brings the feels.
